oven chips, steak fries, French fries, shoestring fries or frites 

whatever you call them homemade potato chips are a deliciously crispy snack made from sliced potatoes, fried to golden perfection and seasoned to taste.

INGREDIENTS

Unlike store-bought varieties, they can be customized with your favorite spices and flavors, offering a fresher, more wholesome alternative. Whether baked or fried, homemade chips are the perfect treat for any occasion, delivering a satisfying crunch with every bite.

​​METHOD

1. wash the potatoes, leave the skin on for a rustic look or peel for a more refined bowl of chips

2. slice into desired size and place into cold water so they don't go brown

3. bring a large pot of water to the boil and add vinegar

4. safely place the potatoes into the boiling water and boil for 8 min (thin fries only boil for 6 min)

5. drain well and let dry on clean tea towel or paper towel

 

OVEN

6. pre-heat oven to 200oc

7. place chips into a bowl and toss with oil and herbs

8. place chips on try or suspend over baking tray with a rack to provide more of an air fryer effect

9. place in oven on the middle rack for 20min or until desired crispiness

 

DEEP FRY

(add seasonings after)

6. bring oil to 170oc / 200oc

7. place chips in for 3 min to seal then fish out of the oil and cool on some paper towel. Do not overcrowd when doing first fry otherwise they will stick together

8. return chips to hot oil for second and final fry for 5min or until desired crispiness. All chips can be added as long as they are all submerged in oil.

9. remove from oil and allow oil to drain, place in a bowl and toss through your seasonings
